Eurasian Schools Debating Championship 2013

Dear Debating Community,
We, the Robert College Debate Society, cordially invite you to the Eurasian Schools Debating Championship 2013. After its successful debut with 50 teams participating, making it the second biggest debating tournament ever held, the Robert College Debate Society is proud to organize the third session of the ESDC once again in one of the most exciting and magnificent cities of the world, Istanbul. This year, the event will take place between the 27th August and 3rd September 2013. Since we are aiming to make the ESDC biggest international tournament ever held, there will be no team quota in this year’s tournament.
The ESDC is unique since it is the first Eurasian Schools Championship ever organized, the first international schools debating championship to take place in Turkey, and the first completely student-run tournament.
The tournament will be in WSDC format and all debates will be in English. There will be 8 preliminary rounds, octo, quarter, semi- finals and the grand final. In order to promote fairness and competitiveness we will follow the power-pairing format that we successfully used last year and the year before. For your comfort, just like last year, accommodation will be provided by one of the most prestigious and modern universities in Turkey, Ozyegin University.
In order to have fair and good debates, we believe the adjucation is exceptionally important. Therefore, each year we aim to gather world-class adjudicators in our CAP. Last year we had Ms. Mehvesh Mumtaz Ahmed from Pakistan and Ms. Eirianna Kouri from Greece as our Co-CAs. Also, Mr. Tom McLennan from South Africa, Ms. Veronika Vlckova from Slovakia and Mr. Engin Arikan from Turkey honored us by taking part in the CAP. This year we would like to continue that tradition. Therefore, Ms.Beth James, the Co-CA of WSDC 2012, from UK will be our chief adjudicator. Also, Ms. Tracey Lee from Canada, Mr.Christopher Sanchez from Germany, Mr.Branislav Fecko from Slovakia and Mr.Cem Zorlular from Turkey will honor us by forming the rest of the CAP.
The registration fee for ESDC 2013 is 140 euros (for debater, teacher, adjudicator or coach). The fee for observers is 220 euros. Accommodation and most of the meals are covered in this fee. If you are willing to compete in a prestigious tournament, meet people from all around the world and visit the great metropolis of Istanbul, then the ESDC is the opportunity you are looking for.
