Brief introduction to ICWiP
ICWiP2013 with its International Studies Summer School – Debate Summer
Academy provides an opportunity for students from all corners of the world
to get engaged with a series of debates on topics closely connected with
“Culture and Diplomacy in Our Global World”. Invited lecturers and debate
trainers will address a number of topical questions. Participating students
will have the chance to earn 7 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System)
credits issued by the co-host of the programme, the Faculty of Humanities,
University of Pécs.

ICWiP Debate Summer Academy – “Culture and Diplomacy in Our Global World”
The International Culture Week in Pécs is a complex summer school event that
embeds a youth forum conference, which is supported by discussions,
lectures, debate trainings, workshops, exhibitions, institution
presentations and a field trip. It is a ten-day event that has been
organised every summer since 1996, and it has a vast network of alumni and
partners.

The central theme of 2013
In 2013 the main theme of the summer school focuses on the cultural
diplomacy in the frame of ICWiP Debate Summer Academy, a very special
edition of ICWiP in its entirehistory! The title “Culture or Diplomacy in
Our Global World” was carefully chosen to incorporate topics from different
disciplines.

The key lectures are going to be held by acclaimed scientists, together with
young professionals and special debate trainers leading the workshops and
discussions. Trainers will help participants master debating skills. The
workshops and other activities are directly aimed at generating new projects
with international impacts, by encouraging organised NGO-activities of the
participants.

ECTS credits
For the third year in a row, participating students will have the chance to
earn ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits, issued by the Faculty
of Humanities of the University of Pécs, the major collaborating partner of
SIEN Foundation. 7 ECTS points can be obtained by active participants.

About Pécs
All events and activities aim at stimulating thought and intellectual
development in an open, diverse environment. The rich academic, cultural and
social resources of the vibrant host city all become part of the experience.
Pécs is home to Hungary’s first university that was found in 1367 and has an
important arts and knowledge centre, it was a European Capital of Culture in
2010.
